2021 September Festival

Thank you to everyone who has donated to events across Radyr & Morganstown for the RMA’s Charity for 2019-2021, Tenovus Cancer Care. We are pleased to announce that the grand total raised for the charity was £4,800.

COVID-19 restrictions have made 2021 a strange year in many ways, the Festival Committee are pleased that we were able to put on some our larger outdoor events in September 2021 and are now planning to return to a fuller programme of events for May 2022.

Radyr & Morganstown Festival 2021

Sunday 26 September

A great turnout for both the walk and for those joining us on the lawns at Christ Church for an Afternoon Tea. The Festival Draw was made with a fabulous selection of prizes donated to help the cause.

Saturday 25 September

Despite the COVID restrictions we were able to bring the community together for our Concert in the Parc with teams of volunteers working from early in the morning to set up the Stage, BBQ and Bar ready for our local bands to entertain the crowds. We were also pleased to have support from Cardiff Morris with a few demonstrations of Morris Dancing and the support of St John Ambulance for our First Aid cover and giving demonstrations of life saving First Aid.

Saturday 18 September

The weather was kind and the crowds turned out for the Fete and Dog Show. Stalls, bar and barbecue were set up around the play area at Lychgate Gardens.
Tractors from the South Wales area arrived for their annual competition which was won by Jeff Webb of Peterstone with his 1952 Ferguson T20. The Punch and Judy Show attracted a large group of young children and their parents for part of the afternoon. Burgers and soft drinks were very popular with most of the stock selling out by the end of the day. At 2pm the dogs were organized by Val Allen for the Dog Show, which had a large entry for the 12 classes. The judge, Laura Morgan had the difficult task of selecting winners and her daughter Lily was given the job of handing out the rosettes. The dogs were extraordinarily well behaved and hardly a bark was heard – lots of licking and cuddling up.
Another good community event in aid of of our 2021 charity – Tenovus Cancer Care, who were there with a stall and all the helpers were dressed in their tee shirts.

Saturday 11 September

The September leg of the Festival kicked off with the Summer Show. A broad range of entries across the categories were dropped at the Morganstown Village Hall in the morning to allow the judges to look across them all before the hall opened for spectators in the afternoon and the trophies were duly awarded.

Update 24 July 2021

The final details of the September 2021 Festival are coming together.

We had to abandon our May Festival last year and held a purely on-line ‘Mini-Festival’ in May this year. With restrictions being gradually relaxed, we had hoped to run a full Festival this time and had organised a number of indoor events, including concerts and a play. However, these are costly to put on and cannot be called off a short notice. So, without full proof that we would be able to run them, we have reluctantly cut back to events that can be run out of doors.

Nevertheless, we hope there is still something here for everyone. Do enjoy the combined Fete and Dog Show on 19 September, the Concert in the Parc on 25 September and join in the Tenovus Walk on 26 September. And, as a special treat, we are starting the Festival with a revisiting of a ‘Summer Show’. I hope all you gardeners and bakers etc have been busy! Finally, there are competitions and quizzes to enter.

So let’s throw off the memories of being ‘locked up for Covid’ and get out and enjoy ourselves. It is all in a good cause as we are again raising money for Tenovus Cancer Care.

Next year we hope to return to normal with a full Festival in May.
