A Message From Our Chairman

(Updated March 2025)

Welcome to the Association’s 38th Radyr and Morganstown May Festival. Last year we seemed to have completely overcome the influence of the pandemic. The number of attendees at indoor events rose and in many cases was back to normal levels. Numbers at our outdoor events were higher than ever.

This year our selected charity is St John Ambulance Cymru. They have a thriving number of volunteers and have met locally for many years in the Old Church Rooms. We have worked with them for many years, and they are always on duty at our outdoor events.

Please support the festival and the charity and buy lots of draw tickets. All proceeds from the raffle go directly to the charity and there is a book of tickets included with this programme in the Radyr Chain.

As usual, the festival extends over two weeks and three weekends. Full details of all events can be found on our festival website, www.rmfestival.org.uk and regular updates can be found on our Facebook Page @RadyrAndMorganstownHub and also on X (Twitter) @RMHub.

This year’s theme is “Dinosaurs”.

The festival will start again with a Drama Society Production, “Gaslight” at Morganstown Village Hall on 30th April until 2nd May. This will then be followed on Saturday 3rd by our first outdoor event, the Festival Fete, which will again be held in the grounds of Radyr Primary School. Thanks once again go to Mrs. Skidmore for allowing us to use the school property. This will be followed in the evening by our first concert, organized by Cardiff West Rotary. As the Wine and Cheese evening sold out so quickly over the last two years, with many people unable to get tickets, we are holding another evening this year. The Pint of Science night was also a successful event for the last two years, and it is being repeated this year, covering different topics, but now in the Old Church Rooms with a licensed bar. Our biggest event, the Party in the Park is on the middle Saturday and is again being held in Radyr Primary grounds. Jazz night is in the programme on 16th May as are our normal lunchtime concerts and many children’s events organised by the library (Hwb). We have a new event, Boozy Bards, being held in the tennis Club on Thursday 15th. This will be an evening of Poems, Pints, monologues, and songs. Another highlight is the Open Gardens where six gardens open this year along with a plant sale.

Much more information about all events and the full programme are available on the festival website.

There are two competitions, one drawing, and one literary, which are open to all local children.

Please do come along to as many events as possible and bring your friends and neighbours with you.

I would like to thank all the Festival Committee and all our helpers, without whom the festival could not take place.

If anyone wishes to help us, either by joining the committee or lending a hand at one or more events, please contact us.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Festival.
